Garage door maintenance is frequently overlooked, however, if you want your door to work all year round, you need to perform a twice-a-year seasonal inspection and maintenance, otherwise you will eventually need to call upon our professional garage door maintenance service sooner, rather than later.
There is an easy routine that you can follow. For convenience, you can perform your garage door inspection to coincide with other activities, for example, winterizing your lawn sprinklers and turning them back on in the spring, or taking out your lawnmower for the upcoming season.
Watch and Listen to Your Door in Operation
Problems with your garage door and opener frequently manifest themselves in jerky movements and grating, scraping noises. A well-maintained garage door should operate at a whisper as it moves up and down, and you should never see jerkiness in any of its motions. Look at both sides of your garage door system, which include the springs, pulleys, and cables, to make sure they look symmetrical.
Clearing the Tracks
Inspect the tracks on either side of the door to check if they are free of debris and rust. You can use a level to see if the tracks are still plumb along their vertical sections. You can do minor adjustments yourself, however, any major adjustments are best left to a professional technician.
Inspecting and Replacing Rollers
The rollers of your garage door need to be inspected at least twice a year and will need to be replaced every five to seven years. During your inspection, you should replace any rollers that are worn, chipped, or cracked. Most of the rollers can be removed by removing the brackets holding them to the door.
